About KT Merz
Katie Merz (“KT”) who was born in and has lived her life in Brooklyn, has become New York’s best-known contemporary large-scale mural and street artist. By training she is a fine artist and teacher of drawing, who earned her BFA from Cooper Union School of Fine Art in NYC. She has exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum and across the USA and has won multiple national awards and grants. She continues as a professor at the Cooper Union School of Art, where she recently received the August St.Gaudens Award for lifetime achievement. KT’s spontaneous mural artworks comprise glyphs inspired by the actual history, personality and culture of a location’s neighborhood, which are densely sandwiched in wild orientations, depicting themes, recognizable words and local icons echoing both traditional graffiti and the friezes of classical public buildings. KT has mul- tiple public artworks on landmark buildings in New York and other urban centers, and has been commissioned to replicate her style on walls in high visibility locations including restaurants, bars, coffee shops, gyms and yoga studios, and work spaces across the country in destination cities including New York, Austin, and Denver.
